Common issues

Samsung faults Sagonaska technicians see every week

Pick the appliance to see what usually goes wrong on a Samsung, and what is worth trying before you book a visit.

Fridge warm, freezer still cold

Twin Cooling Plus gives each compartment its own evaporator. When the defrost sensor stops reporting, ice sheets over the rear freezer panel and the fridge side stops getting air.

Try first: Empty it and leave it unplugged with the doors open for a day. If cooling returns and fades again within a week, the defrost sensor is the part.

Water under the crisper drawers

The defrost drain behind the rear freezer panel ices shut, so meltwater runs down the back wall into the drawers instead of reaching the pan.

Try first: Pour a cup of warm water into the drain hole at the base of the freezer wall. Refreezing in a day or two means the drain heater has failed.

Ice maker stopped

The RF-series ice maker is the part we replace most on Samsung fridges. Either the tray freezes solid, the fill tube ices over, or the inlet valve stops opening.

Try first: Hold the reset button for three seconds and listen for the fill. No water within a few minutes points at the valve rather than the module.

Samsung fridge repair

A client with a Samsung French door found milk going off in three days while the freezer kept making ice. Unplugging it overnight bought two good days, then the same thing happened again.

Diagnosis and fix

Defrost sensor replaced

The freezer back wall was a solid sheet of ice, the classic Twin Cooling symptom. We replaced the sensor, cleared the evaporator and the fridge held temperature within three hours. Covered by the 90-day warranty.

DC or UE, cycle stops partway

Both codes mean the machine thinks the drum is unbalanced. Samsung reads rotation through a Hall sensor, and when it drifts the washer stops on loads that are perfectly fine.

Try first: Redistribute by hand and check all four feet sit flat. The code returning on a small balanced load points at the sensor or the suspension.

5E or 4C, water will not drain

These are the drain faults. The pump filter behind the small door at the bottom collects lint, coins and hair ties until nothing moves.

Try first: Put a towel and a shallow tray down, unscrew the filter slowly and clear it. If the code stays, the drain pump is finished.

Water on the floor at the front

Samsung front loaders tear the door boot in the inner fold, where water and detergent sit between washes. The leak shows during the wash, not at the end.

Try first: Pull the fold back and look for splits or grit. Dry it after every load. A torn boot is replaced as a unit.

Recent repair, Bayside, Belleville

Samsung washer repair

A Samsung front loader kept halting mid-cycle with a DC error. The owner had already split the load, relevelled the machine and restarted it several times.

Diagnosis and fix

Hall sensor replaced

The sensor reading drum speed had failed, so the control kept seeing an imbalance that was not there. Replaced on the first visit and tested through three spin speeds. Covered by the 90-day warranty.

Tumbles fine, clothes stay damp

On Samsung DV dryers this is usually a blown thermal fuse on the exhaust duct. It is a one-shot safety part and it trips when the dryer overheats.

Try first: Check the vent hood outside while the dryer runs before replacing anything. A new fuse in a blocked duct lasts weeks.

tS, tO or hE on the panel

tS means the thermistor reads shorted, tO open, hE points at the heater circuit. A heating element and a thermistor fail with very similar symptoms.

Try first: Unplug for ten minutes and start a fresh cycle. Note the exact letters if the code returns, it decides which part we bring.

Cycle ends early with the load wet

The moisture sensor bars inside the drum get coated with softener residue and start telling the control the clothes are dry.

Try first: Wipe the two metal strips near the lint trap with rubbing alcohol. If a timed cycle dries fine, it is the sensor.

Recent repair, Thurlow

Samsung dryer repair

A Samsung dryer ran a full cycle and left everything damp. The lint trap was clean, no code showed and the drum turned normally, so the owner assumed age.

Diagnosis and fix

Heating element and duct cleared

The element had burnt out because a partly blocked wall duct kept the cabinet too hot. We replaced the element and cleared the duct in the same visit. Covered by the 90-day warranty.

5C or OC, water left in the tub

Samsung's drain faults. WaterWall and StormWash models push a lot of water through the filter, so it silts up faster with hard Quinte water.

Try first: Twist out the filter at the base of the tub and rinse it. If that clears it, make it a monthly habit.

Residue left on the dishes

StormWash arms have a lot of small nozzles and scale narrows them one by one. Pressure drops and the upper rack suffers first.

Try first: Unclip the arms, rinse them and clear each nozzle with a toothpick. No change usually means the circulation pump.

LC or LE, leak sensor tripped

A float in the base pan trips on even a slow internal drip, and the machine refuses to restart until the pan is dry.

Try first: Tip the unit forward gently to drain the pan and dry it. If the error clears and comes back, there is a live leak.

Recent repair, West Park Village, Belleville

Samsung dishwasher repair

A Samsung dishwasher was leaving a few centimetres of water in the tub after every cycle. The filter was spotless and no code appeared.

Diagnosis and fix

Drain pump check valve replaced

The check valve had failed, so water drained and flowed straight back in. Replaced in one visit and confirmed over two test cycles. Covered by the 90-day warranty.

Burner clicks but will not light

Samsung gas ranges use sealed burners with electronic igniters. Food debris around the electrode, or a cap sitting a millimetre off, stops the spark reaching the gas.

Try first: Lift the cap, brush around the igniter dry and seat it flat. Still nothing when everything is dry means the igniter or spark module.

One zone on the glass top stays cold

On radiant models the element or the infinite switch behind the knob fails. On induction a single coil can go with no code at all.

Try first: Try the same pan on another zone. One dead zone points at that element or switch, several at once at the board.

SE or C-d0 on the display

SE means a key on the touch panel reads as stuck, usually from moisture under the membrane. C-d0 is a communication fault with the display.

Try first: Unplug for five minutes. SE clearing and returning within days means the membrane is failing.

Recent repair, Foxboro

Samsung range repair

A Samsung gas range clicked non-stop even with every knob off. The cooktop had been cleaned thoroughly the week before, right after a pot boiled over.

Diagnosis and fix

Spark module dried, switch replaced

Moisture from the boil-over had worked into the module and kept it discharging. We dried the assembly, found one failed channel and replaced the switch. Covered by the 90-day warranty.

Oven never reaches temperature

The bake element carries most of the heat on Samsung electric ovens. When it fails the broil element still glows, so the oven looks alive while the cavity stays cool.

Try first: Set 350 and look through the glass after ten minutes. A dark lower element with a glowing top one is the answer.

Uneven baking, pale centres

Samsung ovens drift at the temperature sensor. A gap of 20 to 50 degrees between the display and the cavity is common by year four or five.

Try first: Put an oven thermometer on the middle rack at 350 for twenty minutes. More than 25 degrees out means the sensor.

Door locked after self-clean

The latch motor takes the brunt of a clean cycle. If the cavity is cool and the door still will not open, the motor or its switch has failed.

Try first: Let it cool fully, then cut the breaker for a minute. Never lever the door, the catch breaks and the repair triples.

Recent repair, Rossmore

Samsung oven repair

Everything baked in a Samsung wall oven came out underdone in the middle, even with extra time. The display read correctly and no codes appeared.

Diagnosis and fix

Temperature sensor replaced

An oven thermometer read 45 degrees below the setting. The sensor had drifted, a known Samsung failure at three to five years. Replaced and verified on a test bake. Covered by the 90-day warranty.
