LG appliance repair by Sagonaska

LG puts a linear compressor in the fridge, a direct drive motor in the washer and a sensor on nearly everything else, so the codes say a lot once you know how to read them. Our technicians repair LG in Belleville homes with a 90-day warranty on parts and labour.

Common issues

LG faults Sagonaska technicians see every week

Pick the appliance to see what usually goes wrong on a LG, and what is worth trying before you book a visit.

Both compartments slowly warming

LG built a lot of French door models around the linear compressor. When it loses capacity the whole cabinet drifts up together, unlike a defrost fault where only one side suffers.

Try first: Leave a thermometer in a glass of water overnight. Both sides high with a barely warm condenser means the sealed system needs testing.

Er FF or Er dH on the display

Er FF means the evaporator fan is not reporting, usually jammed in ice. Er dH says the defrost cycle ran too long. They often appear together.

Try first: Unplug for five minutes and see which code returns first. Let it defrost fully with the doors open before the visit, it speeds the job up.

Ice maker in the door has stopped

LG door ice makers fail at the fill tube, the inlet valve or the motor. The tube ices first, then the tray freezes into one lump.

Try first: Pull the bin and check for a solid block. Clear it, press the test button and listen for the fill within a couple of minutes.

Recent repair, Point Anne

LG fridge repair

An LG French door was spoiling milk in three days while the freezer still made ice. The owner had cleaned the coils and pulled the fridge from the wall with no change.

Diagnosis and fix

Evaporator fan motor replaced

The fan had seized behind a layer of frost, so the fridge side got no air at all. We replaced the motor, cleared the ice and checked the defrost heater. Covered by the 90-day warranty.

OE error, water stays in the drum

The LG drain fault. The pump filter behind the small door fills with lint, hair and the occasional coin faster than people expect.

Try first: Lay a towel down and unscrew the filter slowly, there is more water than you think. If OE returns after cleaning, the pump is done.

UE or dE, cycle stalls before spinning

UE is an unbalanced load, dE means the door lock did not confirm. LG direct drive machines are strict about both.

Try first: Redistribute the load and check the door clicks shut firmly. dE on an empty machine means the latch assembly.

LE error or the drum barely turns

LE points at the direct drive motor circuit, usually the rotor position sensor or a loose rotor bolt. Left running it can take the board with it.

Try first: Stop using the washer once LE appears twice. Restarting repeatedly risks the board, and a sensor is a far cheaper part.

Recent repair, Cannifton

LG washer repair

An LG front loader kept flashing OE and finishing with water in the drum. The owner had cleaned the pump filter twice, which helped for a load or two.

Diagnosis and fix

Drain pump replaced

The filter was clear but the impeller was worn and moving no real volume. Pump replaced, hose cleared and a full cycle run to confirm. Covered by the 90-day warranty.

D80, D90 or D95 on the display

LG flow sense, showing how restricted the exhaust duct is. It is a warning rather than a fault, and people ignore it until the dryer stops heating.

Try first: Disconnect the duct at the back and run the dryer a minute. Good airflow at the machine means the blockage is in the wall duct.

Tumbles but never gets hot

On LG electric dryers the heater relay on the control board fails as often as the element. A thermal fuse can also open after restricted airflow.

Try first: Check both halves of the double breaker, since one tripped leg gives a turning drum and no heat.

tE1 or tE2 code

Thermistor faults. The sensors that read air temperature drift with age, so the dryer runs cold or shuts down early to protect itself.

Try first: Unplug for ten minutes and start fresh. Note whether the code shows at the start or partway through.

Recent repair, Corbyville

LG dryer repair

An LG dryer showed D90 for weeks and then stopped heating. The lint trap was cleaned every load, so the owner assumed the heater had simply failed.

Diagnosis and fix

Thermal fuse replaced and duct cleared

The wall duct was packed solid at the elbow, which had cooked the fuse. We cleared the run, replaced the fuse and measured the temperature rise. Covered by the 90-day warranty.

OE error, water left in the tub

The drain fault. Between the filter, the hose loop under the sink and the pump, one of the three is holding water back. New garbage disposals are a regular culprit.

Try first: Rinse the filter and check the drain hose rises in a high loop. If a disposal went in recently, confirm the plug was removed.

AE error, leak detected

LG dishwashers carry a float in the base pan. Even a slow drip from a clamp trips it and the machine will not run.

Try first: Tip the unit forward gently to empty the pan and dry it. AE returning means a live leak.

Dishes come out gritty

QuadWash models push water through a lot of small nozzles, and local water leaves scale in them.

Try first: Clear every nozzle with a toothpick and run a hot empty cycle with dishwasher cleaner.

Recent repair, Plainfield

LG dishwasher repair

An LG QuadWash kept stopping mid-cycle with AE on the display. The client had dried the floor twice and could not find the source.

Diagnosis and fix

Sump gasket replaced

The float had tripped on a slow weep from the sump gasket, too little to reach the floor but enough for the sensor. Gasket replaced and two cycles run as a test. Covered by the 90-day warranty.

Burner clicks and will not catch

LG sealed burners need a clean electrode and a cap seated flat. Spills bake onto the electrode tip and the spark jumps to the wrong place.

Try first: Brush the electrode dry and seat the cap square. Every burner clicking at once means the spark module.

Induction zone stops mid-cook

LG induction tops shut a zone down when the electronics underneath overheat, usually because a drawer or stored trays block the vent path.

Try first: Clear anything stored directly under the cooktop and try again.

F9 or F11 on an electric range

F9 means the oven is not reaching temperature in time, F11 a stuck key on the panel. Both are common past five years.

Try first: Cut the breaker for five minutes. F11 clearing and returning means the membrane is on its way out.

Recent repair, Frankford

LG range repair

An LG induction range kept shutting the right front zone off partway through cooking, with no code and no pattern the owner could see.

Diagnosis and fix

Cooling fan replaced

The fan under the cooktop had seized, so the zone was hitting its thermal limit. Fan replaced, vent path cleared and all four zones run at full power. Covered by the 90-day warranty.

Oven never gets to temperature

The hidden bake element under the floor of LG ovens is the usual failure. You cannot see it glow, so people blame the thermostat.

Try first: Set 350 and check whether only the top element glows. That split is the signature of a failed hidden element.

Food cooks unevenly

The oven sensor drifts and LG ovens can end up 20 to 50 degrees off the display. Convection adds a second variable if the fan has stopped.

Try first: Leave an oven thermometer on the middle rack at 350 for twenty minutes.

Door locked after EasyClean

The latch motor gets the most abuse during a clean cycle. A cool cavity with a locked door means the motor or its switch.

Try first: Let it cool completely, then cut the breaker for a minute. Never lever the door.

Recent repair, Stirling

LG oven repair

Roasts were taking half an hour longer than they used to in an LG wall oven. No code showed and the fan ran normally.

Diagnosis and fix

Hidden bake element replaced

The element under the oven floor had failed, leaving only the broil element working. Replaced, and a test bake held 350 within a few degrees. Covered by the 90-day warranty.
